NEW DAWN EDUCATION GROUP (NDEG) is a non-profit organization incorporated in Minnesota designed to deal with issues of equity, inclusion, and diversity in Minnesota and beyond. The main purpose of the organization is to provide education on equity, inclusion, and diversity for schools, universities, and public institutions. We provide these services through consultancy and training in the most professional manner.
Before we create our approach and policy, we must have a basic understanding of what those three words mean and the differences between them.
NDEG believes that it is not enough to just have a policy in place, but there is the need to use it and strive to do better. Institutions need to build the core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion into their organization’s operations and model values that advance their mission and goal. One important step is to implement a community assessment process or research to identify barriers to racial equity and improved race relations, understand a community’s awareness of racial and ethnic issues, and establish baseline data in different disparity areas (e.g., homeownership, high school graduation rates, suspension rates, small business loans)
NDEG further believes that there is a lag in communities’ and institutions’ capacity to proactively address structural racism, e.g., increasing residents’ knowledge and awareness, providing opportunities for diverse residents to build relationships. Our organization intends to foster the engagement of a critical mass of diverse residents to participate and lead the initiative to focus on racial inequities, especially institutionalized disparities in power, policies, and practices.
